Nokia Activ Server 2.0 Professional Edition

The Nokia Activ Server is an open software platform that enables mobile connectivity to a company's legacy information systems, Intranet and Extranet services. The Nokia Activ Server offers strong and secure architecture for deploying mobile connectivity. Additional security and encryption protocols, access to a company's email server, calendar synchronization, and the possibility to get terminal MSISDN number are offered as options to the Nokia Activ Server.

WAP services can be created in several ways. The Nokia Activ Server can be used as a gateway to Internet web servers over HTTP. Alternatively, stand-alone applications or connectors to various kinds of back-end systems can be implemented as Java™ Servlets on top of the Nokia Activ Server API (Application Programming Interface). Also, static Wireless Markup Language (WML) or other type of content can be stored locally in the Nokia Activ Server.

Connections from WAP-enabled terminals to the Nokia Activ server can be arranged through bearers such as Short Message Service (SMS) and Circuit Switched Data (CSD). The UDP/IP bearer adapter in the Nokia Activ Server for Circuit Switched Data assumes a dial-up connection from the terminal to a modem pool or an ISDN connection. This allows a company to deploy its WAP services independently from teleoperators. Short Message Service Center (SMSC) bearers assume that connection to the operator's SMS center is available.

Nokia Activ Server OTA provisioning is the first one-button solution for activation of WAP settings. With Nokia Activ button on a company website end-users can easily activate new WAP services in their WAP terminals. The administrator of the service can create WAP settings by using the Nokia Activ provisioning tool.
