Text based Steganography
Problem
Steganography is the art of writing hidden messages in such a way that no one, apart from the sender and recipient, suspects the existence of the message. This is a form of security through obscurity. Steganography is different from the related cryptography in that it does not attract attention to the actual message. Terrorists are reported to have used steganography and with this in mind there is a need to detect hidden data using Steganalysis – the art of detecting messages using Steganography. There are a number of methods in Steganography with images being the most common form.
Background
The aim of this project is to examine text based steganography. There are a number of clever techniques to do this and the reference list gives some examples.
A good page to visit is here. It has good starting papers of which some are included below. Nevertheless, start your research there and refer to it every so often as you will see some good leads there once you get into the topic.
